MTA:SA progress update

It’s been a while since we really provided a “real” progress update, so we’re taking the opportunity to tell everyone about what’s been happening under the hood.

The last public beta proved to be very useful, and this has resulted in many new changes and fixes.

As always, a number of crashes have been fixed which should make DM feel more stable. Vehicle interpolation has been tweaked which should make it more efficient, resulting in an increase in FPS. There have also been other changes to areas such as the streamer, which also impact the overall FPS positively. We’re hoping that issues of FPS should be reduced for the next public beta.

Occurrences of “sliding” (a form of desync) have also been further reduced, which should also be evident in the next test. One very notable fix worth mentioning is that players can finally shoot players who are inside vehicles. This is something that was supposed to make DP1 but was removed at the last minute. This has finally made it and is worth testing for the next public beta.

Citizens of GTA – video parodies

IGN/Black20 have released 6 more Citizens of GTA videos since I last posted about them. They aren’t as good as the first 3 and some seem to be more recreations than parodies but they are still entertaining. The titles are Emergency, Gas Station, Pigeons, Batter Up, Drive-By and Ejection.  Warning: Contains senseless violence against poor innocent peds.

GTA2 map – Mafia Style

Mafia Style is a medium sized arena with a phone at each end. Each time you spawn, you can use the phone to call for backup (a gang that follows you). There are molotovs, machine guns and shotguns. Supports 2 to 4 players.

FTC gives EA permission to acquire Take Two

The Federal Trade Commission has cleared EA’s proposed acquisition of Take-Two following a lengthy investigation by its Bureau of Competition.

The non-public investigation into EA’s hostile takeover bid found that the potential merger wouldn’t substantially lessen competition in the games market, removing one of the remaining hurdles blocking a deal.

“Upon further review of this matter, it now appears that no additional action by the Commission is warranted at this time. Accordingly, the investigation has been closed,” reads a letter sent to both publishers.
