Chinatown Wars PSP reviews and release

Rockstar News Wire

Reviews are starting to appear for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for PSP, available throughout North America tomorrow, Tuesday October 20,and across Europe this Friday October 23.

The critical response thus far?

A perfect 10/10 from Play Magazine, which called the game “The new best hand-held title of the year.”

Another 10/10 from Videogamer.com: “The game boasts some of the most inventive missions in GTA’s history…GTA: Chinatown Wars is my favourite handheld game of all time.”

Eurogamer deliver a 9/10 and highlight the upgrades made in the transition to PSP: “Not only are the textures much higher-resolution throughout the world, but the once-squashed comic cells used for the text-based story sequences look beautiful spread across the PSP screen.”

Gamepro’s 4.5/5 comes with a glowing recommendation: “Chinatown Wars remains an absolute blast from start to finish with plenty of trademark Liberty City locales ripe for exploration… If you’re looking for a good action adventure experience that harkens back to the more cartoony Grand Theft Auto days, then Chinatown Wars is certainly worth the investment.”

Now Gamer scored the game a 9.5/10, stating “GTA: Chinatown Wars on PSP is bigger, looks better and arguably offers the definitive handheld GTA experience. If you’re a fan of the series, you won’t want to miss it…Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars has perfectly translated to the PSP and is a must-have game.”

Release dates for Chinatown Wars PSP:

Over 100 minutes of new music and a small set of original missions complete the PSP additions, and although these were yet to be revealed in detail, one can only assume they are in a similar tradition to the original game. As for the mini-games, built with the DS stylus in mind, the PSP gamepad operates in a simple – if rather uninspired – manner.
