GTA2 .rep files
If you wanna have your game recorded so you can remember them later but dont want those giant fraps movies, you can record replay.rep files from your game. Most of you must have GTA2 PowerManager (if you dont just google it), so you can make the replay.rep files. Create a GTA2\test folder, open GTA2 PowerManager, go to Debug tab, tick "Constant replay save" and "Do Release Replay" and start the game. The game will automatically be saved in your GTA2\test folder with the name replay.rep. To play them, uncheck the previous boxes and then mark the box "Play Replay" and start game. If you dont wanna lose the previous replay files, simply rename them before recording again.
You just lost the game.

Re: GTA2 .rep files
I'm not sure about it, I havent tried doing that in multiplayer before, but I think its not, maybe it simply doesnt record.

Re: GTA2 .rep files

Re: GTA2 .rep files
Now that one is weird. I also just noticed that when you start game with Play Replay, it replays everything you played and after that you can play normally again, so I think thats what they put that replay thing in, so that probably means it wont work in multiplayer.B-$hep wrote:Creates files for me but doesn't play back what i have done.

Re: GTA2 .rep files
Some rep files are here.
C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA2\data\attract
Game can't start without them. I think it takes the replays from there.
It never plays for me what i have actually saved.
Shows some recordings from the level 1.

Re: GTA2 .rep files
You can playback replays in multiplayer but everyone needs to record and playback, you can't just have one person record since it only records your inputs. I've done it a few times, it's funny to swap recordings with your opponent and see how they played.
I've even used it to resume interrupted games but you have to wait for the whole thing to playback again, so if it's a long game then it's a long wait.

Re: GTA2 .rep files
There are some .rep files at GTA2\data\attract (attr1.rep, attr2.rep etc), and if I copy them to GTA2\test and rename to replay.rep it displays an error (Incorrect replay version), but I have only tried with attr1.rep, havent tried with others yet but I think it says same error. Also, some people may understand it wrong and create GTA2\data\test, but its only GTA2\test, not in the data folder, or else it displays an error. And I have no idea about whats happening there, B-$hep, thats weird

Re: GTA2 .rep files
If it says wrong version then tick ignore replay header but then you will have to make sure you choose the correct map (if you look at the replay in a hex editor, you can see the map details at the top) and if you ignore the header you also have to select things like cheats if they were on during the replay. It should just be possible to change the version number in the replay.
If it doesn't save then maybe you didn't tick do release replay (that overwrites previous replay file instead of resuming).
You also have to make sure you are using the correct manager for your GTA2 version. v11.3 writes to a different registry section than v9.6F. For v11.3, you need to run manager-hkcu.exe.
Skip frontend saves some time.

Re: GTA2 .rep files
Also, when its replaying, you can't move your character by yourself, but you can still use teleport, so if you teleport while replaying, it can cause certain "desync".
You just lost the game.
Re: GTA2 .rep files
Yeah, if you have debug keys on, you can scroll around the map but don't teleport.
attr1.rep and attr3.rep files are identical. It uses bil.sty, bil.scr and bil.gmp.
attr2.rep and attr4.rep files are identical. It uses wil.sty, wil.scr and wil.gmp.
They both show the location of a kill frenzy and they both fail, haha.

Re: GTA2 .rep files
Pushing F6 during a replay playback or replay record will make the replay go out of sync.

Re: GTA2 .rep files
is it possible to improve that? For example add ldemsaving to gta2.exe (i mean that demos will be alwats saved)
maybe Vike will help ;D

Re: GTA2 .rep files
It's on the todo list. It's easy enough to create the registry keys and backup the files with GH but always better if GTA2 can do it. If I ever add file sending to GH then I will make it send the replay files after games.

Re: GTA2 .rep files
it would be great to create software that will search gta2 folder for .dem files then make a list and if we doubleclick it will run that dem in gta2

Re: GTA2 .rep files
You don't need to turn on "constant_replay_save"- only "do_release_replay". When you want to play back, turn on both "do_release_replay" and "play_replay".
I'll read the rest of the topic later ;-D

Re: GTA2 .rep files
Just for the record, turning on constant replay save is a good idea, because it prevents you from losing the whole replay when the game crashes
