1966 OLDSMOBILE TORONADO

for G T A 2

by D-FENS

Story:
This Car is (as you can figure) my all time favourite and the one in the garage is currently undergoing a complete restauration in the "real" world. Because I cant wait to drive it again I sat down one day and made myself a little toy for GTA2. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Background on the real vehicle:
Oldsmobile Toronados were the first Front-wheel-drive luxury sports cars ever produced (successfully). The first Generation came out 1966 and 1967 with a powerful 425 cci 380 HP powerplant. They were 2 tons heavy and amazing gas-guzzlers. However, the driving comfort was impressive and in 1968 they even conquered the first 3 places at the anual Pikes Peak Hill Climb (johnsmysers.jpg). FWD just pulled them ahead and left everybody else behind.

Build History:
Time consumed: one day (04.04.01). Samples were acquired from a rubber Toro sold on Ebay. Programs used for editing:

- Photoshop 5.0
- I_View32
- STYed 1.4
- Ultraedit32

Installation:
To install the car please use STYed 1.4 or later. I included the correct files for two different vehicles to be replaced. #5 (G4 Bank Van) and #22 (Ice Cream Van). Choose one you like but keep in mind that the Bank Van uses remaps that I was unable to alter or delete. You might get a very fuzzy alternative to the gold yellow Toro.

  1. Import the "Car x.bmp" into the STYed selected location.
  2. Import the "DeltaSet x.bmp" for the selected car.
  3. Import the "282.pal" to an unused location after #280 (282 is just one possible)
  4. Alter the Image Properties values as stated in install380HP.html
  5. Alter the data/nyc.gci file as stated in install380HP.html

That should be it. You are now the proud owner of a software '66 Toronado.
