hi guyz! i suggest to mass send letters to rockstar email.
today i posted this letter:

hi! can u free gta 2 source code? please see petition

They probably have a filter that moves all messages containing the word source to the spam folder

I've asked them on twitter, facebook and by email. I've never received a reply. Some people have received a reply saying there are no plans to release the source code. I've never bothered to post a letter, I will try that eventually. Not because I think it will help, I just want to get a reply.

I will bump this thread, not without reason.

Who just did a shotout @Microsoft.

hey @Microsoft give me the source code to 3D Movie Maker. You released it in 1995 and I want to expand and extend it. my DMs are open, I'll help you open source it.

Month passed and Microsoft replied to the guy and basically said: "No problem" and released the sourcecode in Github.
Its available for everybody now.

Why the Rockstar Games can't be so kind? WHY WHY WHY?

Microsoft released huge amount of sourcecode from their archives and continues to do that.
They are awesome.

Very sad that R* doesnt want to release GTA1/GTA2 sources.
They are so old.
We dont care about Miles sound system and Bink SDKs, they can remove them.
But everything else is so old and outddated, why keep it in secret?
Even that DMA Map editor for GTA2 would be nice to have sources for it, if they have it..

Just GTA1 and GTA2 sources + map editor. I dont care about newer GTAs

Btw what issues you have in Win10 with GTA2?

I dont have any.
Installed and it runs.
So far I didnt have even a single PC or windows where GTA2 wouldn't run.
Guess im lucky?!

I have my brand new PC with W10 and the older PC with XP.
0 problems.

Even GTA2 demo runs on win10.
It just needs UK keyboard layout. Otherwise it starts whining about that keyboard is not supported or something..
6 minutes playtime. Funny sounds in it.
Feels like its some earlier beta version of actual GTA2 and they decided to make a demo off of it, so it's not fully playable or such.



I love XP, its nice to code and run different old stuff on it.
Both PCs are running together most of the time.

theres a few minor bugs like the frame rate is being capped in 5 fps or somethinglike that, and the screen resolution doesnt fit modern sizes like 1920x1080

There's a mod called Widescreen Fix, sadly there's no a Silent Patch mod or a fix for the FPS Unlocker
