And Remember, Respect is Everything [ARRIE]

Hey folks,

since a while Iam working on a remake of the GTA2 Multiplayer part. I want to keep the gameplay experience as close as possible to the original game, but set it into a Havana/Cuba-environment and it will be completely in 3D :)
I originally started the project in UnrealEngine 4, you can see some pitures and videos of the project here.
Unfortunately, I kind of got stuck on the project at the end of last year. I mean, attempting to program an own game while being at the level of a slightly advanced script-kiddie is quite ambitious^^ I learned a lot from my UE4 attempt, but decided to restart the project a lot cleaner in the godot-Engine, which is more suitable for my needs.
During the past half year I could achieve some quite good progress, I would say (considering that I still have a job and two small kids begging for attention). You can follow the progress of my project on my YouTube-Channel:

I will keep you up-to-date here about the progress and would also be glad to get any comments/critics. Especially the core gameplay-dynamics are not really implemented and can be still adjusted ;) Iam still working on very basic features and currently have a basic health/attack/respawn-system implemented. I need to rework some of my code to fix a few bugs and then extend my networking-code to get it more robust. Then, new features will be coming :)

Welcome to the forum :) i saw your original UE thread a while ago while looking for similar games, the current approach looks good :)

The screenshot makes me wonder how a retrofuture havana with futuristic buildings could look like.

Hey guys,

thanks for your feedback! It's currently a bit busy in my life as I was moving twice in only a few months and my fulltime job + kids are a bit demanding at the moment :/ Also my GraphicsCard died and I currently am a bit limited on my computer as I have to work with a very old one..
But the project is alive. Iam currently working on replacing the placeholder graphics assets to bring the visuals into some direction ;-)

I'll keep you updated!!!

Good work, keep in mind that gamedev, especially indie stuff is what i'd call "long-distance running", life gets in the way of it sometimes, just keep it up with small increments, from my own experiences a game is made of million tiny parts.

Thanks for your words, JernejL - I totally agree!
Today I can show a short update on game visuals - let me hear, what you think about it:

I love the art style. The chubby character model is funny.

Argh, yep, but I think I will replace it sooner or later. It's the only asset not done by me, I downloaded it from mixamo.
When I have the time I will create a set of my own characters. But it will be something in this direction I guess. Maybe I also keep him, the mixamo license would allow that.

I like it - the objects give it style and detailing, and your style is reminding me more of gta london, i'd love to see more of the map and perhaps some other types of buildings.

You are using a lot of objects too, which i think is great, it is also something i am working on in my game - i have an opinion that gta2 had too few street objects, while gta1 did but didn't use them to full potential at all (did you know it has explosive barrels, but they were not hittable with weapons directly, so they were kinda useless) - objects can be imo used great for tactics - especially for taking cover.

Speaking of mixamo, i use their animations too and - afaik, all (or majority) of their models are royalty free (and they got more models if you are willing to pay for them) - the website and animation library is wonderful tool for game developers.
