I am searching for a hoster for my gta packages
I am searching for a hoster for my gta packages
some days ago square7.ch deleted my account. Obviously because i hosted many big files on it and only very few website stuff. The packages are currently offline but before i reup them i wanted to ask if anybody knows a free web hoster where you can host files with a size up to 500mb and which has a total storage capacity of 1gb.
And (i know it is not very likely) if there is a hoster which also has php safe mode off it would be awesome because i would not need to reup every package after commiting a change anymore.

How much bandwidth was it using per month? That's probably the biggest factor when hosting large files.

unfortunately they don't store it forever.
before hosting the files on square7 i searched for filehosters. only few of them did not delete the files and all had either low transfer speed, extremely annoying spam or hidden download buttons. thats why i decided to use a webserver which also has the advantage of ftp transfer and static urls when you want to replace a file.
i did not look at the stats and now i cannot anymore. I guess it was below 1 or 2 gb. well, i do not wonder why they deleted the account. i did not have any html on this account and instead many large files. maybe i create a new account and upload a mirror of my website too.
But even if they do not delete the account this is not the perfect solution. I still would have to upload the whole pack if i make ony a little change.

Re: I am searching for a hoster for my gta packages
You could buy a small business shared hosting package. Would be relatively cheap if you choose the minimum level of technical support. You'd get PHP but might get CPU and memory usage limits.
I got my hosting from Dave's Hosting which is a one-man re-seller based quite near where I live. I made a couple of websites for him and gave some donations before that. In exchange I've got "unlimited everything (within reason) forever". You might find someone in your own country, on in Game Hunter, who could provide some hosting in exchange for technical favours or a small monthly fee?
It's well worth buying a domain name. That way you can have a permanent URL for each file, even if you change hosting provider. (I've changed 3 times since 1998 but didn't buy a domain until I was on the 3rd provider.)

I can host some of the packs. I already have most of the images on my map page, just not in a pack.
Re: I am searching for a hoster for my gta packages
thanks, that would be cool. i send you the php script. It should work on a server too with slight modifications. Then you can decide which packs you want to host. you can also look at this page which has a brief description for each pack:
http://elypter.net84.net/gta2.tk/packs.html
the advantage of the script is that you can also choose to update only one pack(including those which depend on its content). This way the time needed for compression can be reduced drastically.
file sizes(pack):
elypter_pakx 13 mb
game_pakx 35 mb
image_pakx 26 mb
jed_pakx 43 mb
media_pakx 430 mb
multiplayer_pakx 35 mb
online_pakx 110 mb
singleplayer_pakx 19mb
resource_pakx
file_sizes(raw):
game 210 mb
image 30 mb
jed 70 mb
media 510 mb
multiplayer 430 mb
resource 120 mb
singleplayer 21 mb
Recent changes: i discontinued complete_pakx and added resource_pakx. the website is not updated yet.

Hi Elypter.
Can you please reupload these packs:
image_pakx.7z
resource_pakx.7z
Btw, all TinyGTA(2) links are dead.
Same with GTA CHAMBER.
And same with your all @square7 links.

Re: I am searching for a hoster for my gta packages
Thank you very much.
Lots of useful stuff in these packs.
It's also very nice for me to see also my own tools and tools updated by me.
Good job.

Re: I am searching for a hoster for my gta packages
I have almost 10GB of free space on my host and 200Gb or something of bandwidth per month. I should be able to host your stuff if you want... I could give you an FTP account with a large quota?
Re: I am searching for a hoster for my gta packages
thanks to vikes generous offer the pakxs can now be generated online which allows much more frequent updates.
the new links will be available soon.
also thanks to m0nk. he offered an account too before but unfortunately the 7zip binary could not be executed on that server. maybe i will use it for a mirror instead.
