Chinatown Wars on South Park

Copied from PlanetGTA.com

In the town of South Park tonight, the economy went bad and part of the episode concentrated on how the ailing economy keeps Cartman from getting something he wants…a copy of GTA: Chinatown Wars for Nintendo DS. Here are a few select quotes I transcribed:

Cartman: "Of all the times for people to decide to stop buying things, it had to be the week that Grand Theft Auto IV comes out for Nintendo DS!"

Later on in the episode:

Cartman: "I had a dream last night. I was in a field, and I had Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars right next to me. But then the sky went black and…Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars just melted in my hands." (Cartman begins to cry.)

And later when Randy and others are meeting to try to come up with solutions, Cartman comes in and offers to help:

Cartman: "Did somebody say ‘catch a Jew?’ The person you’re after might be hard to get, but I can bring him to you. And all I want in return…is Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for handheld Nintendo DS."

The episode is called "Margaritaville" and will play on Comedy Central several more times this week.

Rockstar Leeds talks GTA DS with IGN

IGN’s Craig Harris has posted an interview with Rockstar Leeds President Gordon Hall, about the development of Chinatown Wars.

Even before we wrote one line of code we had laid in stone that the game MUST run at 30 frames per second. What we did do many, many times is go over the code, hand optimising every line we could. The amount of raw machine code in this game is just unheard of nowadays. We were busy throwing away page after page of traditional code in favour of the machine’s raw assembly language.
