Petition for GTA2 source

It has been over a decade since GTA2 was released. It would be great publicity for Rockstar Games to release the GTA2 source code and it would do a great service to the loyal fans. GTA2 has already been released for free, so releasing the code can't hurt sales. Over 2000 people have signed the petition and many more would like to see an enhanced GTA2.

Sign the petition for GTA2 source code.

I can understand that there might be some parts of the code that would need to be removed for licensing reasons but it shouldn't be anything that can't be replaced with an open source alternative. Any parts of the code would be useful including the mission scripts (*.mis files), the map editor source code or the script compiler source.

We would prefer it if the code could be made public but if you need to restrict the code to only certain people, there are skilled fans out there, who would be willing to sign NDAs and work on patches to GTA2 for free. If any parts of the code can't be released, it would at least be appreciated if the reasons for those decisions were released.
