on every update a .htaccess file is beeing saved. this allows to use mmp->archive lookup even if the php script is not working for some reason.
just add the filename to the following url: http://gta2dare.omnitude.net/mmpdirect/
it works like sektors sytem except that you need .mmp here.

Just tweaked the CSS for my compact map listing concept.
  • File lists expand to show all items when you hover over them. (Yay CSS3!)
  • Buttons now use the red gradient all the time so they look a bit 3D and button-like.
  • Button caption gets underlined when you hover over it, just to confirm it's interactive.
  • Degrades quite gracefully in IE8. (Older versions not tested. Just the maps list which is really different.)
  • Some spacing is now 0.5em more accurate than before.

Elypter gave me FTP access and we've forked some files. I had a look through and can work with this code.

First thing is to learn the data structure his system uses. Not sure when I'll start doing that as I have a lot of life stuff to sort out at the moment.

After some help from Elypter I've got an unofficial re-skinned maps list working on my host. Please don't upload to it, it's just an interface demo. But it is working from real map packs.

Quite a few refinements left to make. But it's encouraging to see the progress, after a few days.

(EDIT) Some of the metadata could be generated from parsing the .mis file, when present:
  • Maximum wanted level.
  • Dusk is probably supported if the ambient light is set and the value is 0.25 or higher.
  • Date of a map's last update actually turns out to be a problem as simply uploading can change the date.
The site owner and maybe some moderators would need to manage (and supply, in most cases) the following metadata:
  • Tagging consistently won't work if left to individual map authors to add it in custom .mmp sections.
  • Re-packaging all levels does not scale and causes version confusion.
  • Map images were taken for nearly all levels by Kamil and Elypter. We could use those, as they are freely distributed. (But with a watermark, for some of Kamil's ones.)
  • Descriptions for nearly all levels have already been written by Sektor. We could use those, with his permission.
(EDIT2) There's now a gentle highlight when you hover over a map, to help visually group the information.

Some 'unknown' values for the metadata are now hidden. Re-used original files are also hidden. A bunch of other tiny styling improvements, too. Better expansion of the file list and preview image when hovering your mouse anywhere over a map. Added a couple more maps to show some variety.

Further refinements to the demo!
  • Added a gap between separate packs of maps.
  • Preview images stay within their entry, except when you hover over them.
  • Reduced font size for titles, so they are now in a more 'classical' rhythm: 12, 14, 18, 24.
  • De-linked the map titles because the big "Download" button is nice and close to them.
  • Neatened the HTML which is produced.
  • Re-wrote a lot of my previous CSS to make some more small refinements possible.
The final item still spills out of its map entry. Still wondering how best to fix that.

I'll be back from holiday on 5th March 2012.

Pretty much off-grid and on-piste until then. Au revoir!

Just so I remember, elypter requested the files for my alteranative map list layout. I private messaged them to him last week.

Sadly I don't have an environment to match elypter's. Also don't have the PHP skills to do it well. It's possible to learn all that but just so much time - and might not get used at the end of it.

Elypter, I logged in at this map page but it says that You are not allowed to upload maps. Request permission. I request permission. Can you give to me permission?

updates:
almost all maps do now have a preview image on the website. for those maps which do not include own images there are images generated AUTOMATICALLY on the server!
Many thanks here to T.M.
he made his minimap generator linux compatible so it can be used on a webserver.

since Game Hunter 1.56 (inb4 slowpoke) the install button for each map is now working out of the box.
you can now search and browse maps on the website and when you found one that interests you, you can install it with one click. you can also search maps by using the "@find part_of_mapname_description_filename_or_whatever" command in gamehunter. (edit: the search function seems to be bugged atm)

"Login with your GTAMP.com forum account or register" (even more slowpoke) on the user upload page is not true. as long as the map system is on this server you need an account on the test forum (register). tell me if you need one.

Thanks to Sektor the mapscript is now hosted on the new gtamp server with a few updates and bugfixes

http://gtamp.com/mapscript/maplist/list.php
-userupload and updating is working again
-more performance (updating the map database is now a lot faster)
-userupload now works with accounts from this forum (ask Sektor to be added to the modder group)
-minimap generation is working again now(with a little workaround)
-mapautodownload is now also possible with a .htaccess file instead of php (http://gtamp.com/mapscript/mmpdirect/<mapname.mmp>)
-rar files are not working anymore unfortunately

also thanks to Vike who was hosting the site for all the time

I'm happy you got it working on my server. URL is a bit long. I might make it shorter or setup a redirect.

You can join the modder group by select joining group on this page: http://gtamp.com/forum/ucp.php?i=167

i made a BBCode for showing a map in the forum
Image

BBCode usage

Code: Select all

[map]{TEXT}[/map]
HTML replacement

Code: Select all

<iframe height="368" width="900" frameborder="0" scrolling="yes" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://gtamp.com/mapscript/maplist/frame.php?{TEXT}"></iframe>
Help line

Code: Select all

copy everything after the ? in the mapscript url (ex: "http://gtamp.com/mapscript/maplist/list.php?folder=usermaps&map=lt.7z" -> "folder=usermaps&map=lt.7z")
