Because gta2 has a much better ping for me under linux and because i would like to make gta2 playable on every pc i created some scripts that help installing and starting gta on linux. The currently available information is obsolete and incomplete although wine executes gta2 and gamehunter almost perfectly, in some points even better than windows.
there are 2 ways to run gta2 with wine under linux. the first is the classic one. it installs wine and direct play on your system. this works well when you have root and you are not using a live disk(they can cause various troubles with installing and drivers).
If you don't have wine or root you can use the second method, a portable wine. depending on your system you need to run one of the installers.unfortunately i have to include a wine prefix because of the portable version. the script that should generate it does not yet work. winetricks needs cabextract which is not present on default systems. i wasn't able to fool winetricks to search it in a place different from the default install path. if someone finds a way i could reduce the filesize dramatically.Usage:
extract it in the gta folder which should also be the game hunter folder
there is a help file named linux_readme.txt included which holds some unseful information.
to run it you must allow all .sh , .bat and .exe files to be executed. you can do this via file properties dialog on all modern desktop distributions.http://elypter.net84.net/gta2.tk/packs.html#onlinephttp://elypter.net84.net/gta2.tk/packs.html#gamep
